AURANGABAD CUISINE: 5 MOST DELICIOUS FOODS I HAD IN AURANGABAD
In my last blog, I had shared my trip to Aurangabad with my family where I had seen things that I am never going to forget in my life. But a trip is never really complete without it's food and me being a foodie, eating is always the number one priority!
Hence, in this blog, I am going to share with you the 5 most delicious food that I have had while staying in Aurangabad.
MAHARASHTRIAN THALI
As I had already mentioned in my previous blog, we had the best thali in our hotel, which we couldn't finish on our own. It had almost 10-12 different items and each one of them was tasty. For the first few minutes, I couldn't even decide what to eat first. There were Rice, Chapati, Dal, Chicken (in non veg) and other Veg dishes. It also had Curd, Cutney, Papad and Sweets. Altogether it was huge and I couldn't get up after just having 85% of the meal.
We ate different versions of the thali almost anywhere we went in Aurangabad so it's pretty much common there.
MISAL PAV
We had this dish while shopping in Connaught Market when my dad suddenly said: "There is a place in here that has very tasty Pav Bhaji".
I had never liked any bread items in my life and so this idea didn't feel so good to me but still I went with my dad and we ordered the Misal Pav as it was something new to us (and also cause the waiter insisted it was pretty famous). I hate to give my dad credit for this, but with the first bite that I had, I was shocked. This dish was Sooo unexpectedly tasty. It had this amazing chaat with a perfect taste of hotness, spicy and tanginess which kept lingering in my mouth for hours after I ate it.
It was also very cheap as it took us around INR50-60 for one dish and undoubtedly, was one of the best dishes I had tasted in Connaught Market. Since then we kept visiting the place to have Misal Pav at least once every day as long as we stayed as it was quite near to our hotel.
NAAN KHALIYA
Our discovery of this dish also happened quite unexpectledly when the waiter suggested it to us during lunch at a restaurant on our way back from Ajanta Caves. It looked like a normal dish of Chicken curry and Naan but didn't, at all, taste like a normal dish of Chicken curry and Naan. The curry (later we learned that it was called Khaliya) had a taste of coconut, but was spicy and really tasty and even my mom who doesn't like spicy dishes asked for a refill.
We later learned that Naan Khaliya was a speciality of Aurangabad and a lot of restaurants served it throughout Aurangabad.
PANI PURI
I had Pani Puri from a vendor outside of Ellora Caves, 8 pieces for INR 25. They had a filling of chana, spices and sour curd, instead of potato mix, very different from what I regularly have in Kolkata but was very tasty and also tummy filling. There are a lot of Pani puri vendors everywhere in Aurangabad and all of them served the same quantity in the same price.
KEBABS
Our hotel was surrounded by various Restaurants serving Mughal dishes and hence, we could try different types of Kebabs from Malai kebab, Metka kebab, Tandoori kebab to simple Tikka kebab. Each and every one of them were delicious and by far the softest, juciest kebabs I have ever had.
Thus, ended my epic food journey in Aurangabad and I progressed much more closer to my (never fulfilling) dream of eating every kind of food I can possibly find in this world!
